The first joint production with prisoners took place in 1991 when Sweeney Todd was staged with people serving life sentences in HMP Wormwood Scrubs.

In 1990 Pimlico Opera performed two operas in Wormwood Scrubs: Le Nozze di Figaro and Walton's The Bear.
